A Prayerful Review of Your Day

From Anglican Youth – by Karen Spoelstra, Diocese of Auckland

Often in life we move very quickly from one thing to the next, we rarely slow down to reflect on what God has been doing and saying to us during the day. Here’s an outline your teenagers can use each evening to slow down and spend time listening to God...

Breathe deeply and rest in the presence of God.

Feel gratitude for the day, whatever it has been like.

Review your day from the time you awoke until this moment. Let images of the day pass through your awareness. Focus on the day’s gifts. Think about the work you did at school or at home or someplace else. Who were the people you interacted with. What did you receive from these people? What did you give them?

Pay attention to the small things – the food you ate, the sights you saw. God is in the details.

Reflect on the feelings experienced throughout the day. Boredom? Elation? Resentment/Feeling frustrated about something? Compassion? Let’s see if anyone knows what that word means? What is God saying through these feelings?

Choose one feature of the Holy Spirit to lead you to something during the day that God thinks is important.

Look toward tomorrow. Ask God to give you light for tomorrow’s challenges.
